Day 2 - Friday 2nd December

It didn't take me too long to drift off to sleep. We didn't stay up too late, and got to bed around 10pm. The bed was lovely and comfy. However, it was pretty hot in the room. I slept okay, but woke a few times to reposition myself to  cool down and then doze back of to sleep.

I got up about the usual time for me, about 7am. I thought I might as well have a shower and get up. I popped across to the coffee place to grab a few coffees to bring back to the room. We had with the cookies that we had brought from the deli the day before.

It was such a pleasure to go the Hagen to get the coffees. It must have been about middle of the rush hour, not too busy. Yet they only had one guy both taking orders and doing the coffees. Yet they were still able to serve me in about 2-3 minutes from walking in the door to walking back out again.

Kathryn got ready, and we sat out on the balcony for a little bit. It was quite cold, but the hotel room was quite hot, so I guess it evened itself out in the end. We had breakfast included in our room rate, and so we went down for breakfast at about 9:30am.

The basement in the hotel contains a lovely little restaurant. About half the tables were occupied when we arrived, and we got seated in a nice little corner spot so me and Kathryn could speak to each other easily. I had tea, and she had a coffee. I browsed the paper and we had a simple breakfast but it was nice to chat and have a little bit of food.

We went back to our room and packed our bags. We had a little rest and enjoyed the room for the last little bit, before head to reception to drop our bags off. We walked back to Sloan Sq, and popped into the John Lewis to look at teh Christmas stuff. We got some cards but didn't see anything else we liked.

We then walked back to the deli to get some more christmas presents. We were hoping to perhaps get a seat for lunch, but they said it was a 50 minutes wait. Perhaps next time we'll have to be organised and try and make a reservation. We picked up a few bits before then popping into a Pret to have a little bit of lunch.

We walked back, got another coffee at Hagen before finally getting Jo a nice pastry and back to the hotel to get our stuff. We had an easy trip across London back to Kings Cross on the Underground. We tried to pick up some dinner but were unable to.

We had a short wait before a mad rush to get on the train. It turned out that the trains ebfore and after ours had been cancelled. And our train had been switched out with a bigger train to accomodate more passengers. This meant that there were no seat reservations. So it was a bit of a rush to try and find somewhere to sit.

ANyhow, it all ended up okay in the end. We had to share a 4 seated table with a guy who got off at Peterborough. Then we had the hots drinks trolley around and we had some cake and a nice cup of tea. Unfrotuantely the train was a little delayed and we missed our connection at Leeds. But we picked up dinner and were able to get the next train half an hour later.
